Book supernatural explanations of diseases and disorders?

I'm looking for a book that explains connections between congenital disorders or social taboos and the theories of mythical creatures. These are ideas that today would be explained by science and pathology or just odd behavior. For example hypertrichrosis is a disorder that influenced the legend of the wolfman or werewolf. Vlad the Impaler and Elizabeth Bathory have ties to vampiric legends as does the disease which causes the afflicted to rash when exposed to sunlight. It's rather specific so I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Thanks if advance for the help.
